Product Details Description A SPECIALLY FORMULATED LIME PLASTER BASECOAT Product Details: TAKCOAT™ Platinum is a specially formulated lime plaster basecoat that is designed to be installed on sound interior/exterior applications. In addition, our special formula allows you to apply TAKCOAT™ without priming a wall with sanded or acrylic ‘weld’ primer or lath to create a permanent bond. TAKCOAT™ Platinum can also be used directly over porous Brick, Stone, and Concrete that have no form oils or sealers on them to give a “Heavy Bodied Whitewash” appearance. This finish is often desired as a fresh up of historic whitewash used over basement parging which needs to be refreshed. Rather than successive thin layers of watery limewash, TAKCOAT™ Platinum can be troweled or brushed on thickly, allowed to gel over, and then cross-hatched brushed with water to leave it glisten and cure brilliant white. Skip dash methods of the same can be used to create interrupted finishes such as German Schmear and simulate the distressed appearance of aged whitewash with some of the color of the brick or stone not covered to give this mottled appearance. Mixing: TAKCOAT™ Platinum should be mechanically mixed using a drill mixer with a paddle attachment. Approximately 1.25 gallon of water is added per 50 lb unit. Mix well for 3-5 minutes. Adjust final water content carefully to a workable consistency. The correct consistency for TAKCOAT™ Platinum is as thick as pudding for troweling. 1/3 cup of Borax may be added per a gallon of mixing water to defend against the potential of mold in damp or humid environments. Working time: 1-2 hours once mixed with water. Any material that is mixed with water and left to sit over 12 hours should be discarded. Cure time: TAKCOAT™ Platinum should be misted once after a 24 hour cure time. Shelf life: 8-12 months if kept sealed and away from moisture.
